Transformation

Standard
October is the month when all the leaves on the trees turn colors. They turn brilliant reds, oranges and golds. It is wonderful to watch as they begin their change. The trees change at different times and at their own pace. We had several places in Southern Indiana that folks would flock to so they could see the beautiful foliage. It’s a beautiful time of the year.
As I was thinking about this change and how we all love seeing the leaves change and the brilliance of fall colors I began to think about the transformation that takes place when folks come to Christ.
There are beautiful transformations that take place when they put their trust and faith into Christ. I have seen people transformed into beautiful butterflies fluttering around doing all kinds of things they thought were impossible.
Paul is a good example of transformation. Paul was one that was in the business of destroying Christians. We know he went about persecuting Christians. Then one day on the road to Damascus God confronted Paul and the transformation began. Take time to read this familiar story found in Acts 9.
Leaves on trees do not transform overnight. It is a slow transformation. When we come to Christ it also is a slow transformation. It would be too dramatic and too stressful if he changed us into new creatures all at once. He changes us slowly and one day at a time. Eventually we become these brilliant beautiful souls that he has transformed.
My transformation began years ago as a youth. Over the years God has been transforming me into the person he needed me to be so I could do the work he has called me to do. I couldn’t as a youth do the work I am doing now. First of all I wasn’t in the right location, second I was not experienced enough to jump in and do those things I am doing now. I needed experiences, learning about Christ through Bible study and the church and maturity to help in my transformation. Now you may see some changes in me if you have known me for a long time, but I am not finished.
2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds me, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” The leaves on a tree aren’t new ones; they are ones that are being transformed into new life. We are new creatures in Christ when we come to him and allow him to transform us.
I challenge you this fall to take a walk. As you walk take a look at the leaves. Pick one up and begin to look at the transformation it is taking from green leaves to magnificent colors of red, orange or gold. Then think about and maybe even journal about the transformation you have taken as Christ has changed you into who you are today.
Maybe you have not made that decision, but as you walk along and see the leaves changing, maybe you realize it’s time to make that decision and allow God to transform you into who you can be. If so I ask that you stop and pray and allow God to begin transforming your life into a new creature. Feel free to contact me if I can help in some way. God bless you.
Dear God, I love the transforming of the leaves from a green into bright and beautiful colors of orange, red and gold. Thank you for the reminder that when we come to you, you transform our lives and we are new creatures. May we all become new creatures in you. Amen
